School bullying is a serious issue that has plagued educational institutions worldwide, leading to severe physical and emotional consequences for victims.
In a recent incident in Perak, Malaysia, five students have been detained by the police following an alleged assault on a junior student that left him injured.
According to Harian Metro, Perak Police Chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris stated that the incident came to light after the victim, a Form One student, lodged a police report on July 24.
The student claimed that he was attacked by a group of seniors from Form Four and Form Five.
As a result of the assault, the victim sustained injuries to multiple parts of his body and had to be treated as an outpatient at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB).
Following the report, police moved swiftly and apprehended the five students, aged 16 and 17, for further investigation.
The police are also tracking other suspects involved in the incident,” he added.
Datuk Azizi Mat Aris stated that the authorities are working to uncover the cause of the incident and are also tracking down other suspects involved in the attack.
The investigation is being conducted under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment or a fine, or both, if convicted.
In his statement, Datuk Azizi emphasized that the police are taking the matter seriously.
He urged the public to refrain from engaging in illegal activities and warned against making baseless speculations regarding the case.
