Thousands of chickens perished after a fire broke out at a poultry farm on Jalan Guar Napai, Kampung Paya Muyud in Jitra on Friday (Feb 14).
According to a report by Berita Harian, firefighters from the Jitra, Bukit Kayu Hitam, and Alor Setar Fire and Rescue Stations were dispatched to the scene after they were alerted of the blaze at 11pm.

They were also assisted by the Volunteer Firefighter Teams (PBS) from Bukit Pinang, Seberang Nyonya, Pokok Sena, Jalan Kundur, and Kilang Tebu, as well as Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
48,000 chickens burnt alive in fire
Jitra Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Bustan Karudin told the Malay daily that when firefighters arrived at the scene, they saw a two-story building that operated as a poultry farm being on fire.
The blaze was eventually brought under control at 12.46am but the building was 80% destroyed as a result.
Aside from that, 48,000 out of the 50,000 chickens were killed in the fire. However, no human casualties were reported.

Mohd Bustan added the cause of the fire and the total losses are still under investigation.
