A 41-year-old civil servant was arrested for secretly recording a woman without her consent at Pekan Sehari Temerloh, Pahang.
According to NST, the incident happened on November 9 when a 33-year-old woman noticed the man’s suspicious behaviour.
With help from nearby members of the public, she managed to catch him on the spot.
Viral video shows women restraining the suspect
In a video of the arrest that has gone viral online, three women were seen physically holding the suspect.
One woman had her arm around his neck, another held onto his shirt, while the third grabbed his phone.
They could be heard calling out to others about the man’s actions and asking how many times he had done it. The man kept apologising and denied the allegations.
A caption on the video claimed he had been filming women’s buttocks.
Police find lewd content in his mobile phone
Temerloh police chief Nasyim Bahron confirmed that officers were sent to the scene and seized the suspect’s mobile phone.
A check on the device revealed not only the recording of the woman but also several lewd photographs and videos.
The suspect was held for 24 hours before being released on police bail.
Police are now preparing to refer the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 509A of the Penal Code, which covers acts of insulting a person’s modesty.
