A 41-year-old man has been placed under administrative detention after he was caught harassing a female passenger aboard Shanghai Metro Line 1 on April 8.
According to an official statement by the Shanghai Public Security Bureau, the incident occurred around 6.30 pm.
The man, identified as Yao, allegedly splashed an unknown bodily fluid onto the woman’s leggings in a train carriage.

He was immediately confronted by nearby passengers and subsequently handed over to the authorities.
Victim visibly shaken as video circulates online
Footage circulating online showed the distressed woman pointing out the substance on her pants while exclaiming, “You took off your pants and did this to me,” and “Your zipper was open, sir!”
Her voice broke as she confronted the man, drawing attention from other commuters on board.

One woman on the train rushed to help, offering comfort and support.
In the video, she can be heard saying, “I called the police, I recorded everything, I’ll go with you, sister.”
The supportive gesture was widely praised by netizens, who applauded the quick response from fellow commuters.
Authorities vow tough stance on crimes against women
Shanghai Rail Transit Police said they remain committed to a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes targeting women on public transport.

In their statement, police encouraged passengers to report any illegal behavior immediately by calling 110 or approaching station officers directly.
They also stressed that maintaining safety and dignity for female commuters is a top priority and that swift action will be taken against all offenders.
