A young boy has left netizens’ hearts in a puddle after an adorable video of him giving out free ice cream to passersby went viral on TikTok recently.
Netizens also praised the boy’s parents for teaching their son in celebrating his birthday in such a meaningful way by being generous to others.
3yo M’sian boy hands out free ice cream on birthday
In the close to 1-minute clip shared by the boy’s mother (@3llyss4), it began with the boy pulling a cart with his sibling sitting inside it along with a Styrofoam box containing ice cream.
After setting up “shop”, he then beckoned to passersby to come and get their free ice cream as it was his 3rd birthday.
It didn’t take long for several people to drop by, with all of them thanking the boy for his generosity and wishing him “happy birthday”.
A group of passersby even gathered around to sing “Happy Birthday” to him to celebrate the joyous occasion.
In the comment section, netizens were full of praise for the boy’s parents and commended them for raising their child well.

‘This is such a good idea. Instead of waiting for presents, you taught him to be generous on his blessing day. Good job guys. Happy birthday, Mateen.’
‘Happiness comes by sharing’
Speaking to WeirdKaya, the OP named Ellyssa said the video was taken on Aug 5 at Emerald Lake in Sunway City Iskandar Puteri, Johor.
When asked how the idea of giving out free ice cream came to be, she said her son, Luth Mateen, had celebrated the first two years of his birthday with the family only and she wanted to do something different this year.
“When he turned three, I wanted him to feel celebrated by more people, not just the family alone.
I also wanted to show him that happiness grows when it’s shared, so we decided to give out free ice cream to strangers.
“It was our way of turning his special day into a day that could make others smile too.”
Ellyssa added that she hopes her son will come to understand that birthdays are more than just getting gifts or throwing big parties.
“True joy doesn’t come from material things, but from giving sincerely and making others happy. If Mateen can carry that value in his heart, I’ll feel like we’ve given him the best birthday gift possible.
“One day, when he’s old enough to look back at this moment, I hope he realises that the sweetest thing wasn’t about the ice cream, but the joy of giving,” she said.
