All across the country, thousands of Malaysians are celebrating Raya, one of the major festive celebrations in full swing after more than two years of restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, the celebration turned sour for a man in Kota Kinabalu after he allegedly committed suicide on the first day of Raya.
Man allegedly commits suicide on 1st day of Raya
China Press reported that the tragedy took place at a hotel located at Jalan Tanjung Aru in Kota Kinabalu yesterday, the first day of Raya celebrations.
According to a statement by the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, they received a report from the public at around 6.10pm and quickly dispatched a team to the scene.
When they arrived, they found the body of a 36-year-old Malay man who allegedly fell from the fifth floor of the hotel and landed on the balcony on the first floor.
“Medical personnel at the site later confirmed the man’s death,” it said, adding that the victim suffered severe head injuries as well.
The body was later handed to police for further and subsequently sent to the morgue for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
