A Singaporean man has sparked discussion online after sharing his plan to move to Kuala Lumpur despite earning a high income in Singapore.
He said he felt burned out and was looking for a better environment for his children to grow up in.
Feels ‘jaded’ despite stable income
The 35-year-old man, who works in Singapore’s education sector, said he earns SGD100,000 (approx. RM330,000) a year.

I have been feeling very jaded with life in SG and have been fantasising of leaving,” he wrote on Reddit.
KL seen as top choice
In his Reddit post, he explained that he wanted to move out of Singapore but still stay close to his extended family.
“KL feels like a sweet place to be, with opportunities likely far greater than anywhere else in Malaysia,” he added.

One major reason for his desire to leave was Singapore’s “ridiculous education system,” which he believes affects his children’s wellbeing.
He admitted that he would likely earn less in Malaysia but was willing to accept it for a more balanced lifestyle and holistic learning for his kids.
Netizens offer mixed reactions
Comments on his post were divided.
Some Redditors supported his view, with one writing, “If your family can get by on RM100k to RM150k a year and you’re not chasing material things, you’ll be fine staying in KL.”
Another said, “Yes, make the move. Cost of living here is more bearable compared to SG. Wish you all the best in your future.”
Others warned that moving from Singapore to Malaysia may not improve things financially, especially when supporting three children.

A few suggested taking a long break or checking if his employer has offices in Malaysia to ease the transition.

While many Malaysians dream of moving to Singapore for better pay, this Redditor’s post stood out.
