A tragic incident occurred in Ipoh when three local men were found dead, believed to have been electrocuted while attempting to steal electrical cables near Taman Rapat Perdana.
Public alerted police about the incident
According to Sinar Harian, the discovery was made after police received a call from members of the public at about 10.00 am today (16 Mar) reporting suspicious activity at an electrical pole owned by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Najib Hamzah, said a police team was immediately dispatched to the location after the report was received.
Three men confirmed dead at the scene
Upon arrival, officers found three local men lying motionless at the scene. Initial checks confirmed that all three had died at the location.
Early investigations suggest the victims were attempting to cut electrical cables from a TNB pole when they were believed to have suffered electric shock.
The bodies of the victims, aged between 35 and 50, were later sent to the Forensic Department of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of death.
Case classified as attempted theft
Police said the case is being investigated under Section 379/511 of the Penal Code for attempted theft. It is also classified as a sudden death report (SDR) pending further investigation.
Authorities also reminded the public not to get involved in criminal activities such as cable theft, as it is illegal and can also pose serious danger.
