3 M’sian Cops Charged With Man’s Murder At Langkawi Police Station

No plea was recorded from the officers.
A total of three police officers were slapped with murder charges at the Langkawi magistrates’ court today for allegedly causing a man’s death back in January.

According to Berita Harian, the accused were Assistant Superintendent Azhar Amir and two corporals named Shahril Firdaus Solleh, and Shaharri Shah Mat Saad.

According to the charge sheet, the trio were accused of murdering 32-year-old Hafiz Salleh back in Jan 29 between 6pm and 8pm.

The offense allegedly took place at the Langkawi police headquarters’ (IPD) narcotics criminal investigation division, where all three of them were stationed.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death sentence if convicted.

However, no plea was recorded from the officers after the charge was read out before Magistrate Nurul Natasha Rizal.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Khairul Anuar Abd Halim while the accused were unrepresented.

The court also accepted the prosecution’s application to deny bail to all the accused and set October 20 for case mention.

The case was first brought to light after a clip showing Hafiz being arrested with excessive force at a petrol station in Ayer Hangat went viral, reported Sinar Harian.

He later breathed his last on Feb 1 after spending two days fighting for his life while receiving treatment at Hospital Sultanah Maliha (HSM).
