3 Men Arrested For Stealing Chickens Worth RM27,000 From Public Markets

The arrests followed a police raid conducted in Rawang.
Three men suspected of stealing chickens worth over RM27,000 from several public markets in the Batang Padang district have been apprehended by the police.

Reported by Sinar Harian, the arrests were made following a raid in Rawang, Selangor, last Monday (23 Dec).

According to Superintendent Mohd Naim Asnawi, the Tapah District Police Chief, the suspectsโ€”aged between 33 and 43โ€”used their own or rented lorries to transport stolen chicken baskets.

โ€œTheir modus operandi involved two suspects acting as thieves, while the third suspect would purchase empty plastic containers used for storing the chickens,โ€ he explained.

The trio managed to steal 66 baskets of chickens before being caught.

With the arrests, the police have successfully solved at least six reported chicken theft cases in the district.

Superintendent Mohd Naim noted that such operations caused significant losses to market vendors.

Urine tests revealed that one of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.

Two suspects have been remanded for four days until this Friday for investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which deals with theft. T

he third suspect has been remanded for two days starting Tuesday to assist in investigations under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft within premises.

This case highlights the unusual yet significant impact of organised theft in public markets, disrupting livelihoods and causing financial losses to traders.

Police are continuing their investigations to ensure justice is served and to deter similar incidents in the future.
