A woman in Thailand had a shock of her life after she discovered a fish bone had pierced right through her neck after she accidentally swallowed it weeks ago.
As a result, the fish bone had to be removed via surgery.
Drank some fish soup
The incident was first brought to light when photos of the fish bone piercing the woman’s neck was shared on Facebook, which has since garnered 14,000 reactions at the time of writing.
Not long after the post went viral, the woman’s husband, Suriyan Buppa-art, told several Thai media outlets what had actually transpired.

As reported by Thaiger and Khaosod, Suriyan said his wife was craving for some fish soup so they cooked a dish using two kinds of fishes: a two-spot catfish (Pla Kayaeng), and an eel-like fish (Pla Lod).
There were some bones mixed in the soup and after my wife took a mouthful of it, she accidentally swallowed a bone in the process.
“She then tried to dislodge the bone by swallowing some rice but it was unsuccessful,” he said.
No bone found in X-ray
Suriyan’s wife then went to the hospital for an examination. Following an X-ray, doctors couldn’t find the bone or any foreign object in her throat, leading her to believe the bone had dissolved.

Two weeks later, she began experiencing symptoms similar to thyroiditis, prompting another visit to the doctor.
Like the previous visit, the doctor also couldn’t find the bone with a X-ray and instead gave her some medication to soothe the pain.

Aside from the medicine, Suriyan’s wife also bought a pain relief patch to apply on her neck.
Before she applied the patch, she massaged the part of her neck which was sore gently. To her horror, she saw the fish bone protruding right from her neck.

Suriyan and his wife then rushed to the hospital for the third time and doctors immediately performed a surgery to remove the fish bone which was 2cm long.
Suriyan added that the doctor who treated his wife said this was his first time encountering such a case.
As for his wife, she told reporters that she’ll never eat eel for as long as she lived.
