A young man in Johor Bahru was tragically killed after he reportedly beat the red light while driving his Nissan GTR sports car at breakneck speeds and collided with three other cars.
Aside from him, another male driver also lost his life while four others suffered injuries in the crash.
Witness heard loud revving sounds
According to China Press, the GTR driver was 29-year-old Tan Wei Siong, who hailed from Kluang and worked as a manager at an auto parts centre. He was also reported to be a member of a local sports car club.
An eyewitness told the Chinese daily that several drivers were waiting for the light to turn green at a junction prior to the crash when he heard a loud “vroom vroom” sound believed to be emitted by the GTR car.
Moments later, the GTR car sped straight through the junction and into the opposite lane, where it collided with multiple cars.
“The impact was extremely loud and drew the attention of nearby residents,” recounted the eyewitness.
2 killed, 4 injured
Bandar Seri Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi bin Ishak said the crash took place at around 3.20pm yesterday (Jan 4).
“The GTR driver lost control and swerved into the opposite lane and collided with three cars before crashing into the right road shoulder. The other cars were a Kia Picanto and two Perodua Axias.
“The GTR driver suffered severe head injuries and died at the scene. As for one of the Axia drivers, he was rushed to Hospital Sultan Ismail but died along the way,” he said.
Four others sustained minor injuries and were taken to the same hospital for treatment.
The case is now being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving
