A 29-year-old autistic man from Nibong Tebal has won RM1 million in the 109th Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) Sijil Simpanan Premium (SSP) draw, bringing unexpected joy and relief to his family.
Parents’ years of savings rewarded
According to Berita Harian, his father, Hamdan Abdul Hamid, 69, shared that he and his wife, Yuhani Abd Rahman, 71, had been saving money in a BSN account for Amirul Hakim since he was 12.
They never expected their long-term savings efforts to result in such a significant win.
We saved whatever we could each month, including money from his siblings and duit raya. We now see this prize as a safety net for his future,” Hamdan said.
He received the RM1 million replica cheque from BSN Penang State Director Amir Hamzah during a ceremony.
Winnings to be saved for future needs
Amirul, the sixth of seven siblings, is non-verbal and requires assistance with daily activities.
He still attends a special education school that accommodates individuals with disabilities without age limits.
Since Amirul does not understand financial matters, his parents have decided to keep the prize money in his account, allowing it to grow through dividends.
This money will serve as a safeguard. If we ever face difficulties, it will be there for him,” Hamdan explained.
Family shocked but grateful
Hamdan recalled his disbelief when BSN contacted him on March 1 to announce the win.
He only believed it after repeatedly checking BSN’s official website and social media pages.
Expressing gratitude for their son, Hamdan emphasized the importance of love and care for special needs children.
“Regardless of a child’s condition, parents always want the best for their future,” he said.
Despite the challenges of raising Amirul, his parents cherish his unique personality.
He loves thick picture books and scented self-care products like shampoo. Whenever we visit a supermarket, that’s the first section he goes to,” Hamdan shared.
The story has warmed hearts online, with many congratulating the family and hoping the winnings will provide Amirul with a secure future.
