Rape is one of the most horrific crimes ever to be committed against an individual as it not only leaves behind physical injuries, but ultimately destroys one’s sense of self-worth and sows the seeds of long-term trauma.
A disabled (OKU) teen found herself the victim of this appalling act after the man who raped and sodomised her pleaded guilty at a Johor court.

The heinous act was committed by Asmirul Shaqirin Sazali, who was brought before Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat yesterday (July 24), reported Harian Metro.
The 27-year-old, who worked at a curtain shop, was slapped with three charges of raping, sodomising, and committing sexual acts with a 13-year-old OKU girl.
He was accused of committing these crimes inside a car in front of a restaurant between 8pm and 9.30 pm on July 8 of this year.
Asmirul had previously pled guilty to all three charges on July 16 but made the same plea when it was read out to him by a court interpreter.
He was charged under Section 376(2)(d) of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 30 years’ imprisonment and caning.
Additionally, he also faced charges under Section 377C of the Penal Code, where he faces up to 20 years in jail and caning, and Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017, where he’s liable to up to 20 years in jail and caning if convicted.
Judge Abu Bakar subsequently handed down a 10-year prison sentence and five cane strokes for the rape, six years’ imprisonment and two cane strokes for sodomy, and three years’ imprisonment and one cane stroke for sexual assault.
‘Where is your sympathy?’
Prior to handing down the sentence, Judge Abu Bakar reprimanded Asmirul for subjecting the disabled teen to such horrific trauma.
The victim asked for help but you ignored and mistreated her instead. Why did you do this to her? Where is your sympathy?
He then ordered that the sentences for all three charges be carried out separately starting from the date of Asmirul’s arrest on July 9.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Danial Munir while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
