A young woman from Kuching has gone off the grid for several days after travelling alone to China for work purposes, leaving her family worried for her safety.
Following 25-year-old Yang Meiling’s (transliteration) disappearance, her family have since lodged a police report and approached the Ministry of Home Affairs for help.

Speaking to Sin Chew Daily, Yang’s sister said Yang flew from Kuching to KL on Dec 8 before transiting to China the next day.
She noted that Yang would usually post updates about her trip on Instagram but observed that the posts became less frequent and that her last update was on Dec 15.

Yang’s sister added that based on the Instagram post, it could only be confirmed that the background of Yang’s last photo was taken in Huzhou.
Not heard from for 5 days
Yang’s sister said Yang last contacted their mother on Dec 18 and told her that she would be returning home on Dec 19.
“Since that phone call, we have not heard from her and we are unable to confirm who she travelled to China with.

“According to a friend of hers, she reportedly went there with a friend who’s a Chinese national, but that person’s identity has yet to be confirmed,” she added.
Yang’s sister said Yang had previously told the family that the trip was a company trip. When they contacted the company to verify, they were told that no colleagues had travelled with her.
A police report was lodged on Dec 21 and Yang’s family have sought assistance from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Yang’s sister said Yang showed no signs of concern before her disappearance and urged those with info on her whereabouts to contact the police or the family at 019-3321314.
