As Malaysia works with Turkey to bring home all detained activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) , one young volunteer’s story has stood out for his bag of chocolates.
Muhammad Hareez Adzrami, also known as Haroqs, a Software Engineering student at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), joined the flotilla with one goal in mind: to help the children in Gaza.

“My emergency bag is full of chocolates”
Before the ship was intercepted, the 25-year-old shared on Threads that his “emergency bag” was packed not with survival gear, but with chocolates.

Whatever happens, my chocolates are still safe. I still have plenty of stock, I want to give them to the kids over there..”

While the flotilla carried essential supplies and drew international attention, Haroqs’ chocolates symbolised something more personal, the simple joy of giving children a treat in the middle of hardship.
He explained earlier that joining the mission felt like a calling: “I always prayed to Allah SWT to invite me to the land of Palestine. When the offer came, I immediately said yes. It felt like a message from God.”
Now as Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that all Malaysian detainees will be flown back via Istanbul in the coming days , Haroqs’ chocolate story has struck a chord online.
