Owning a dream car is something many aspire to, but for most, financial constraints make it seem like a distant goal.
However, a 24-year-old Malaysian woman recently proved that with smart financial planning and determination, it is possible—even with a modest income.
Bought a BYD Seal Premium despite earning RM2.5K monthly
Sharing her story on Threads, the young woman revealed that she had just purchased a BYD Seal Premium, a fully electric vehicle from China, despite having a stable income of only RM2,500.
She emphasised that she paid for everything herself, only seeking her parents’ help as guarantors for the loan.
To make the purchase happen, she put down RM31,000 as a deposit using her own savings, adding that this alone was proof of her financial capability.

For context, according to a source, the BYD Seal Premium is priced at RM179,800 in Malaysia, with an on-the-road cost of RM180,430 (excluding insurance).
When asked why she made such a bold decision, she explained that she didn’t want to look back later in life and regret not buying the car.
While she believes she’ll be able to afford her ultimate dream car in the future, she knew she would regret not owning a BYD Seal while she had the chance.
In her post, she also jokingly admitted that seeing her bank account shrink was a great motivation to work harder.
‘How did you afford it?’
One netizen asked the million-ringgit question: “What girl math did you use to buy a RM180K car on a RM2.5K salary? Which devil did you sign a contract with?”
She explained that she had been working part-time since high school and was fortunate enough to receive full scholarships for both high school and university, meaning she never had to pay for education. This allowed her to save money over the years, and at the time of purchase, she had zero financial commitments aside from the car.

Another netizen was curious about how much she had left after her car instalment, considering her modest salary.
She clarified that RM2.5K was just her stable full-time income, and while she admitted the pay was low for her industry as a fresh graduate, she also earned extra through freelance and part-time jobs.

Paid the down payment all on her own
When asked if she took out a full loan, she proudly revealed that she had paid RM31,000 as a downpayment.

A netizen questioned how she managed to save such a large sum as a fresh graduate, to which she explained that years of part-time and freelance work, minimal spending, and extreme frugality helped her reach the amount. She even admitted to going the extra mile to save as little as RM2 on food orders.
Her financial decision sparked admiration and curiosity online, with many impressed by her discipline and planning. Would you take a similar leap for your dream car?
