Today (Oct 4), Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that all 23 Malaysian volunteers who were detained by Israel during the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission will soon be returning home.

Signed immediate deportation order
According to Anwar, the group agreed to sign an “Immediate Deportation” document, which paves the way for their release and safe passage back to Malaysia.
Reported by Buletin TV3, he said the activists are now being transported to Ramon Airport in southern Israel before boarding a special flight arranged from Turkiye to Istanbul.

Stopover in Istanbul for health checks
Anwar explained that Malaysian officials in Ankara, including the Malaysian Intelligence Chief and the Malaysian Ambassador, coordinated the process to ensure the group’s safety.
Reported by Buletin TV3, he added that the volunteers would stay in Istanbul for about one to one and a half days for health checks.
This is to help them recover from the trauma and stress caused by what he described as harsh treatment by Israeli authorities.
Beyond just M’sians’ safety
Anwar also highlighted that Malaysia’s negotiations were not only about ensuring the safety of its citizens.
The talks also touched on wider humanitarian concerns, including the rights of Palestinians and the importance of international aid access to Gaza.
Although it is not easy to deal with the Israeli occupation, this effort has helped raise global awareness about the injustice faced by Palestinians,” Anwar wrote.
He further stressed that only a cruel and uncivilised leadership would prevent humanitarian aid from reaching those in need.
Message to other M’sian volunteers still at sea
In a later update on his Facebook, Anwar revealed that he had personally spoken with nine other Malaysian activists and volunteers who are still onboard two vessels, the Conscience and TM Denmark Boat, currently sailing in the Mediterranean Sea.
He said the boats have entered the “yellow zone” and encouraged the volunteers to stay strong as they continue their journey toward Gaza.
I gave them encouragement and prayed for their mission to be eased. Their sacrifice in upholding humanitarian principles is an outstanding example for all Malaysians, especially the younger generation, of what courage, determination and true solidarity mean,” Anwar shared.

Returning home soon
For now, my main priority is to make sure Malaysians return safely,” Anwar said, adding that the government will continue to monitor their condition.
The 23 Malaysians are expected to arrive in Kuala Lumpur either tomorrow night or the following day.
