A 22-year-old student from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) tragically lost her life after she was caught in a collision involving two buses at its campus in Sintok, Kedah yesterday (Apr 19).

UUM student killed while boarding bus due to collision
According to Kubang Pasu district police chief Superintendent Mohd Radzi Abd Rahim, he told NST that the incident happened at about 8.45am in front of a bus stop located within UUM, where a bus driven by a 37-year-old had stopped to pick up passengers.
Out of nowhere, another bus driven by a 32-year-old rammed straight into the rear of the stationary bus.

The impact pushed the stationary bus forward into a metal barrier, which then struck the victim, who was walking by and waiting to board the very bus that hit her.”
Although Manarina was rushed to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star, she eventually succumbed to her injuries and passed away at 6.30pm.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Meanwhile, UUM deputy vice chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Professor Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed said in a statement that the university is waiting for a full report concerning the accident, which involved one of its loop buses, to be released.

“We have instructed the security department to liaise with the police to assist in the investigation.
“UUM will take appropriate action based on the outcome of the full investigation.”
We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family for their loss.
