Before ending his life at the age of 21 years old, TAR UMT student Guo Junhao (transliteration) sent a series of heartbreaking text messages to his family.
His last words to family
In one of his final texts, he addressed his mother, writing: “Mom, I’m sorry. I love you.” and apologised to his younger brother before reminding him to take care of their grandparents.

Guo also instructed his brother to handle his personal matters, keep the new clothes he had left behind, and be more understanding towards their grandparents.
According to Sin Chew Daily, Guo also thanked his aunt for treating him like her own son, adding that in the next life, he would still choose to be part of her family.
In a separate note to his family, he apologised for disappointing his elders and asked them not to cry over his passing.
He also pleaded with them not to break the news of his death to his grandparents as he worried they would not be able to bear it.

Made several calls before death
Just before his death, Guo called his closest family members — his grandparents, brother, and aunt — one by one to say “I love you” to them.
At 8.05pm, he phoned his aunt in Singapore and chatted for 12 minutes about his life, leading her to think it was just another normal conversation.
At 8.41pm, he called his mother again and said: “Mom, I love you”. When she called back out of alarm, all she heard from him was “Mom, I’m sorry. I love you.”
A quiet person who was hard on himself
According to Guo’s aunt, he was known to be an independent and meticulous person who rarely shared his inner struggles and would only share good news with others.
She added that he was an extremely academically driven person who would place immense expectations on himself even though his family never asked of that from him.
“He was an introvert who did not have many friends. On his birthday (June 29) last year, he spent it alone.
“I gave him RM500 to celebrate and suggested going on a trip together but he declined and said he needed to prepare for his exams,” she recounted.
Guo studied for two years at UTAR’s Kampar campus before continuing his studies at TAR UMT Kuala Lumpur for a year and a half.
He was supposed to begin his internship in January of this year and graduate in June. His aunt had even looked forward to introducing a job opportunity for him in Singapore after graduation.
TAR UMT confirmed that two of its students had died in separate falls from the same condominium in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur, within 24 hours from each other, with Guo being one of the victims.
