A 21-year-old subcontractor worker tragically died after falling from a factory roof in Nibong Tebal, Penang yesterday afternoon.
Fell from about 30 feet while cleaning solar panels
According to the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) in Penang, the incident occurred around 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday (Aug 26).

The victim, a Malaysian male, was carrying out cleaning work on solar panels at a paper mill’s roof when he slipped and fell from a height of about 30 feet in the Loading Bay area.
He sustained severe head injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel from Sungai Bakap Hospital.
DOSH issues stop-work order
Following the tragedy, DOSH Penang issued a prohibition notice to the parties involved and directed them to stop all work activities until corrective measures are taken.

Investigators are still inspecting the site, and further action will be taken if safety violations are found,” it wrote.
Employers reminded of responsibility
DOSH reminded all employers and contractors that they are legally responsible for ensuring workplace safety.
“They must conduct risk assessments, provide proper supervision, and implement safe work procedures before allowing any high-risk activities.”
Employers can face action under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514) if they fail to comply.
Need for safety measures at high-risk worksites
DOSH stressed that accidents involving work at height are one of the main causes of workplace fatalities in Malaysia.
The department urged all industries to provide proper safety precautions, including installing suitable anchorage points, giving continuous safety training, and strictly enforcing compliance with safe work procedures.
