A 20-year-old Singaporean woman had her family worried sick for her safety after she boarded a plane to Cambodia on her own without their knowledge.
Thankfully, she was found safe and unhurt in the country and revealed that she left home after she was unhappy with her “stressful” life.
Family found flight ticket
Berita Mediacorp reported that Siti Aishah Siregar Sahat Siregar had told her mother that she was attending classes as usual at Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) at around 11am on July 28.
When her parents went to pick her up at 5pm, they discovered phone number was no longer contactable and her WhatsApp account had gone inactive.
Upon returning home, Aishah was nowhere to be found, with police later confirming that she was no longer in Singapore.
When the family checked Aishah’s email, they reportedly found a flight ticket booking to Cambodia, leading them to believe she had headed for Phnom Penh.
This then prompted the family to approach authorities in Singapore and Cambodia for help in hopes of finding Aishah.
Left home due to stress
Fortunately, Aishah was found at a condominium by Cambodian officials and she explained to them what had actually transpired.
According to The Khmer Times, Interior Ministry spokesperson Touch Sokhak shared on his Telegram channel that Aishah travelled to Cambodia in a state of “emotional distress” and purposely switched off her phone to avoid being contacted by her family.
Aishah added she arranged her accommodation through a Cambodian property agent before touching down in the country and was met at the airport by a local friend she’d made through online gaming.
However, she began to have second thoughts about her move and contacted the Cambodian authorities to report that she had been reported missing.
Aishah also vehemently denied that she had been unlawfully detained or kidnapped.
‘I came to Cambodia on my own’
Aishah later released a video statement regarding her disappearance to dispel any doubts surrounding the situation,
In the clip, she said she found living in Singapore “stressful” and wanted to find her own path.
“That’s why on the 20th of July, I decided to leave on my own and come to Cambodia to work as an English teacher.
I have not been forced to come here. I have not been scammed into coming here. It is entirely up to my own decisions and my own concerns about it.”
Aishah also reiterated that she has not been involved in or forced to partake in any scamming activities or any criminal activities.
