Over 20 female students at a boarding school in Sungai Udang, Melaka, were allegedly forced to perform various forms of punishment along the hostel corridor around 3am.
Punished with ‘duck walk’ & ‘ketuk ketampi’
According to a report by Harian Metro, the girls alleged their seniors summoned them to the corridor for returning late at night last Saturday (Aug 16).
The students said they were ordered to do the ‘duck walk’ for 30 minutes and do ‘ketuk ketampi’ (ear squats) as well.
As a result, some of them were left with swollen and bruised legs.
One of the students claimed that she had been bullied before but was too scared to report it, fearing backlash from senior students in the hostel.
A report was lodged by one of the victims at the Sungai Udang Police Station around 1am yesterday (Aug 19) due to concerns over her personal safety.
‘No compromise’
Melaka’s Education, Higher Education, and Religious Affairs EXCO, Datuk Rahmad Mariman told Harian Metro the issue is believed to have stemmed from rocky interactions between senior and junior students.
“A thorough investigation is being carried out and strict action will be taken to ensure the safety and welfare of students are always protected.
The District Education Office (PPD) and the State Education Department (JPN) Melaka will not compromise on this matter,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit confirmed receiving a report and said the case is now being probed under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
