Two 17-year-old teenagers in China have landed themselves in hot soup literally after urinating into a hotpot soup pot at a popular Haidilao branch in Shanghai.
The incident, which happened in February 2025, went viral after reports revealed that the boys were intoxicated at the time.

Last Friday (Sept 13), a Shanghai court ruled that the two teenagers had seriously damaged the reputation and property of the restaurant and ordered them to pay a whopping 2.2 million yuan (RM1.3 million) in compensation to two catering companies.
According to Kosmo, Haidilao had initially sought over 23 million yuan (RM13.5 million) in damages, citing the costs of compensating affected customers and replacing contaminated equipment.
The court also stated that the boys’ parents had failed in their duty of care, making them liable for the payment as well.
Haidilao offers compensation to over 4,000 customers
After the incident, Haidilao announced that it had compensated more than 4,000 customers who dined at the branch between Feb 24 (the date of the incident) and Mar 8.
The restaurant replaced all its hotpot equipment and carried out extensive cleaning and disinfection work to restore public confidence.
