A late-night accident in Alor Setar turned deadly when a car carrying five teenagers crashed into a road barrier, killing two and leaving three others seriously injured.
The incident happened along Jalan Tanjung Bendahara on Thursday (Mar 6) night.
All five victims, aged 18, were recent SPM leavers.
According to Jalan Raja fire station chief Wan Azizul Hakim Wan Jaafar, they received an emergency call at 10.28pm and dispatched a team of eight personnel with fire and medical rescue units to the scene.
Upon arrival at 10.39pm, we found a Perodua Myvi that had lost control and crashed into the barrier. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene by the Health Ministry’s medical team,” he said in a statement.
Rescue personnel used special equipment to extricate those trapped in the wreckage. Three of the severely injured victims were then rushed to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah Alor Setar for treatment.
The rescue operation, assisted by the police and medical teams, also involved clearing shattered glass and spilled oil from the scene.
