Two Malaysian soldiers are facing a lengthy jail sentence and whipping after they were accused of raping a 10-year-old girl in Kelantan.

2 M’sian soldiers accused of raping 10yo girl, plead not guilty
According to the charge sheet, Mahadi and Aizat allegedly committed the rape at a house in Taman CT Jaya, Jelawat, Bachok, in April last year.

However, the duo pleaded not guilty when the charges were read out separately before  Judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin.
If they are found guilty under Section 376(2)(e) of the Penal Code, they face a minimum jail term of 10 years and up to 30 years, along with whipping.
Mahadi and Aizat were represented by lawyers Majidah Muhamad and Mohd Firdaus Zainal Abidin, while the case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Kamarul Hasyime Rosli.

Bail wasn’t offered by the prosecution, given the fact that the victim was a minor when the crime occurred.
In an appeal, Mohd Firdaus asked for bail to be granted to Mahadi and Aizat, arguing that they have cooperated with the police and turned themselves in voluntarily at the Bachok Police Station.
One of them is nearing mandatory retirement next year and has to support four school-going children. The other client has just completed his training and is scheduled to report for work tomorrow.”
A RM10,000 bail was eventually granted to each of the accused, provided that they report to the nearest police station monthly and do not contact or harass witnesses.
The court also set Feb 2 for case re-mention.
