Illegal racers, commonly known as mat rempits, have long been a menace and a source of danger to road users for years due to their stunts being performed on the road while riding at neck-breaking speeds.
Unfortunately, what first started out as an adrenaline-pumped ride between a group of mat rempits turned into a fatal one after two of them were killed following a collision.
2 mat rempits killed while performing high-speed stunts
In a brief 17-second video shared by @redzuanNewsMPB on X (formerly known as Twitter), it showed several mat rempits revving down a road in Klang.
A few seconds into the clip, one of the illegal racers suddenly crashed, causing those behind him to collide with him. One of the motorcycles was even seen flipping into the air due to the crash’s impact.
Following the collision, more mat rempits were sent sprawling across the road, with one of them rolling a few times before landing on his knees and getting back up to his feet again.
A passerby who recorded the incident was rather shaken by how the crash unfolded, where he could be heard saying ‘Wah’ several times as well as ‘Allahuakhbar’ in the background.
Police later confirmed the incident and revealed that the crash took place when the mat rempits were riding from the Pandamaran Sports Complex, Klang, towards Port Klang and back in laps, reported FMT.
According to Klang Selatan police chief Cha Hoong Fong, he said the accident transpired when one of the motorcyclists lost control while performing a stunt, which then led to other motorcyclists colliding into him.
He added that one of the riders was killed instantly, while the other died while making his way to the hospital.
Cha also revealed that the location was rife with illegal racing activities, especially during weeknights, despite frequent operations and multiple arrests being made by police.
The case is now being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
He also called upon those with further information in relation to the crash to contact  investigating officer, Khairul Nizam, at 010-245 2144.
