1994 Proton Saga found in a barn in UK

One man's trash is another man's treasure

A 1994 Proton Saga was discovered by Matt Richardson from Furious Driving. Tucked away in a small garage in the United Kingdom, the car has not been used in over a decade.

Apparently, the owner of the Saga Iswara also contacted Stephanie Holloway from I Drive A Classic for a prospective sale.

The two car enthusiasts then met at the garage to inspect the Proton Saga.

Apart from a layer of dust, the vintage car appeared to be in pristine condition.

Covered under a canvas and couple pieces of cardboard, the interior of the Proton Saga was well kept. Furthermore, the car only shows a mileage of roughly 17,000km.

While introducing the vintage car, Richardson also mentioned that

Protons were tough cars. In Malaysia, these were the default Taxi Cabs back in late 80s and early 90s.

In the 25 minute video, Richardson thoroughly inspected the car, from its engine, doors, and wheels.

The minimal sunlight and storage conditions protected that car’s bodywork as well as its plastic components.

Additionally, due to the lack of sunlight, the rubberise parts such as the windshield wipers were still plaint.

Unfortunately, the unused car battery did not last the decade after several tries to revive it.

How Did It Get There?

This Saga Iswara was an export model for the UK market. However, it is unclear how it came to stay in the dusty garage for over a decade.

According to Richardson, the vintage car was nearly sent to be scrapped because the original owner wanted to clear out the garage.

Fortunately, Malaysia’s Proton was rescued from the scrap metal yard and on its way to its new owner, Stephanie.

Favoured by the British

It seems that this national car is favoured by the British.

Earlier in August, a 1989 Proton won the Top prize for best classic at the Hagerty UK Festival of the Unexceptional
