A teenager’s night “outing” with his friends quickly went south after he was caught up in a surprise operation sting carried out by traffic police.
According to Sin Chew Daily and Kosmo!, the operation took place at Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ipoh towards Chow Kit, Jalan Ipoh (towards Sentul), and Jalan Raja Laut yesterday (Feb 15) from 10pm to 4am.

The operation was part of held in conjunction with ‘Op Selamat 25’ over the Chinese New Year period at illegal racing “hotspots”.
Caught unaware
According to Kosmo! reporters who were at the scene, they observed that many of the illegal racers were caught off guard by the operation.
As such, some attempted to flee the scene by making illegal U-turns, while others simply left their motorcycles behinds and ran away on foot.
A 17-year-old teenager happened to be one of the unfortunate motorcyclists to be caught by police and explained the reason for his presence.

He told police that he was just following friends out and confessed to taking his father’s motorbike without permission and not having a driving licence.
The teen also revealed that his father had no idea that he was out and about.
Another teen named Arsyad told police that he had borrowed a friend’s motorbike despite knowing that it didn’t have a valid registration number and front license plate.
He added that the motorbike had previously been confiscated due to illegal racing, but claimed he was simply “going on a ride” around KL.
