A 16-year-old student has died after suffering serious head injuries in a road accident involving a car driven by a police officer who allegedly ran a red light.
The victim, Muhammad Nur Iman Danial Mohd Roshidi, passed away at 9pm on 31 July after spending four days in a coma at the ICU of Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah (HSB), Alor Setar.
Crash happened during green light
According to Kosmo!, the accident occurred at around 9.10 pm on July 28 at a traffic light junction in Guar Chempedak.
The teen, a Form 4 student from SMK Guar Chempedak 2, was riding his Yamaha LC motorcycle from Alor Setar towards Gurun.
As the light turned green, he proceeded into the intersection.

However, a Perodua Axia coming from the Jenun direction reportedly failed to stop at a red light and crashed into him.
Car was driven by police officer
Initial investigations, including CCTV footage, revealed that the car driver — a policeman from the Yan District Police Headquarters — had ignored the red light.
The impact of the collision caused both the teen and his motorcycle to be dragged under the car.

China Press reported that he lost consciousness at the scene and was rushed to the hospital with severe head injuries.
Family mourns second of four siblings
Iman Danial, the second child in a family of four and son of a former policeman, succumbed to his injuries on July 31.
His body was brought back to the family home in Batu 18 and buried at the Guar Chempedak Muslim Cemetery.
Police investigating under reckless driving law
Yan District Police Chief Supt Mohamad Hamiz said the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death.
If found guilty, the driver could face up to five years in prison, a fine between RM5,000 and RM15,000, and a minimum five-year licence suspension.
Police are also appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information to assist the investigation.
