A teenager was caught being behind the wheel by Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers during a special operation in Terengganu on Wednesday (Sept 24).
The truck, which was carrying a load of coconut husks, was intercepted during the operation codenamed ‘Operasi Khas Gempur Kenderaan Perdagangan’ along Jalan Tok Adis, Kuala Ibai, Kuala Terengganu, at 6pm.
16yo M’sian caught driving lorry full of coconut husks
Speaking at a press conference at the Kuala Terengganu Toll Plaza near Gemuruh, Terengganu JPJ Director, Mohd Zamri Samion, said officers tailed the lorry from behind before pulling it over to the side of the road.
Upon further inspection, it was revealed that the driver was a 16-year-old who didn’t possess a valid driving license, reported Harian Metro.

The teen also told officers that he was simply on his way to Marang to deliver the coconut husks.
Mohd Zamri said the teen was handed a summons while the lorry was seized for further inspection.
He also added that JPJ isn’t counting out the possibility that the teen was hired as a way for the company to cut down operating costs.
“Employing underage drivers is said to be a trend among some commercial (goods) vehicle operators despite knowing the risks they face in the event of an accident or unwanted incident.
“JPJ will not compromise on offenses involving underage drivers, and strict action will be taken not only against the driver but also against the operator, in addition to seizing the vehicle involved,” he said.
