‘Let’s Do It’ — 15yo SG Boy Donates Bone Marrow To Sister Who Suffered Cancer Relapse

A courageous act.
In an act of selflessness and courage, a teenage boy in Singapore did not hesitate to donate his bone marrow to his sister who was stricken with cancer for the second time.

Thanks to his heroic act, his sister is now on the road to recovery and their heartwarming story was shared by the Children’s Cancer Foundation.

In a press statement by the Children’s Cancer Foundation, 13-year-old Mira Lim was diagnosed with leukemia in Jan 2024, but went into remission after undergoing months of treatment.

Unfortunately, doctors had a piece of bad news for the family at the start of 2025: Mira had officially suffered a relapse.

In light of her relapse, doctors recommended that Mira undergo a bone marrow transplant, leading to the entire Lim family being tested for compatibility.

Eventually, it was found that the bone marrow of Mira’s 15-year-old brother, Austin, matched hers. Instead of shrinking away, he gladly agreed to the procedure by simply saying: “Let’s do it.”

On April 28, the bone marrow transplant was successfully carried out and thanks to Austin’s bravery, Mira’s condition has since turned for the better with her blood cell count increasing, her pain gradually decreasing, and regaining back her appetite.

Hopes daughter’s story encourages others

Coincidentally, Austin and his dad, Mr Lim, had come across the Hair for Hope event at VivoCity back in 2013.

After learning about the obstacles faced by kids undergoing chemotherapy, Austin, Mira, and Mr Lim shaved their heads as a form of support.

However, Mr Lim never thought that his own daughter would one day be a cancer patient too.

Having witnessed Mira go through her own journey battling cancer, Mr Lim said he hopes her story will serve as a form of encouragement to others.

“Live every day to the fullest. Even in the most difficult days, hope still exists,” he added.
