A 15-year-old teenager stole the spotlight after winning a whopping RM500,000 at a fishing competition held at DEN Kolam Pancing Kuala Selangor on Sunday.

The teenager, identified as Haikal from Shah Alam, clinched the top prize after landing a fish weighing 2.15kg — the closest to the competition’s target weight of 2.2kg.

Just wanted to accompany his father

According to reports, Haikal initially went to the fishing pond just to accompany his father and did not expect to walk away with half a million ringgit.

When asked how he planned to use the prize money, the soft-spoken teen gave a simple but touching answer: he intends to give the RM500,000 to his parents.

I want to give the RM500,000 to my mum and dad,” he said briefly.

Haikal also shared that he used ulat roti (bread worms) as bait during the competition.

The event offered other lucrative prizes as well, with the second-place winner taking home RM40,000, while the third-place winner received RM20,000.

Haikal’s win, and his decision to hand the money to his parents, has since drawn praise online, with many netizens applauding his humility and filial values.
