What was supposed to be a simple outing for mi celup ended in heartbreak for one family in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
On Saturday (Apr 27), 15-year-old Noor Amilia Salwa Mohd. Suhairi was riding a motorcycle with her friends to a nearby shop when tragedy struck.
She was involved in an accident with her own uncle at Kampung Kayu Rendang, Melor.
Sadly, she passed away at 10.30am the next day after three days in a coma at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HPUSM) in Kubang Kerian.
The moment everything changed
Speaking to Kosmo!, her uncle, 33-year-old Muhamad Faris Ismail, said he was heading home after finishing work as a construction worker in Pasir Pekan, Tumpat.
As he was riding along the road, a Yamaha Ego Advantage motorcycle suddenly made a right turn into the entrance of a mi celup shop, making it too close for him to brake in time.

“I couldn’t stop in time and crashed into the motorcycle. We both fell onto the road,” he recalled.
It was only after the ambulance arrived that he realised the motorcyclist he had collided with was his own niece.
“I was stunned. I couldn’t believe it was her. She had been raised by my father since she was little,” he said, still visibly shaken by the incident.
According to Noor Amilia’s grandfather Ismail Hassan, his granddaughter had excitedly told him earlier that day about wanting to eat mi celup with her friends after school.
He said she was feeling sentimental, recalling memories of her late father who passed away nine years ago after a workplace accident and how he used to bring home mi celup for her.
