A teenage motorcyclist could only give a sheepish expression and a flimsy explanation after he was caught for driving without a valid license.
He was among the thousands of vehicles that were inspected by Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers during an enforcement dragnet held last night (Dec 27) at the Gombak Toll Plaza and other locations across KL, reported NST.
Claimed he was going out for a meal
The teen, when intercepted by the officers, said that he was on his way to a nearby bistro to have a meal with his brother.

The 14-year-old, who’s the youngest offender to be caught in the dragnet, also admitted to being fined for the same offense previously.
In a separate case, a female secondary student from Seri Kembangan burst into tears upon getting caught for riding her sister’s motorcycle without permission to meet a friend.
She didn’t know I used the motorcycle. Even my parents didn’t know I was out tonight, let alone being caught by the authorities,” she said.

The student broke into tears after she was informed that the motorcycle would be seized.
811 summonses issued
Meanwhile, JPJ senior enforcement director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said a total of 3,244 vehicles were inspected and 811 summonses given out.
63 motorcycles with extreme modifications were also seized during the operation which began at 10pm.

“Inspections covered compliance with technical specifications, valid registration numbers, driving licence requirements and road tax.
“For this operation, enforcement focused on riders with extreme modifications. Special attention was given to underage riders performing dangerous stunts such as the ‘superman’ position, wheelies, zig-zag riding and illegal racing,” he added.
