Tragedy struck on the third day of school reopening after the long Chinese New Year break after a teenage student fell to her death from the Krytal Heights apartment in Penang.
According to Sin Chew Daily and China Press, the victim, identified as 13-year-old Chen Meixin (transliteration) was found dead while clad in her secondary school sports uniform at 9am today.
Sin Chew Daily also reported that Chen was believed to have struck a satellite dish as she plunged to the ground floor.
Cause of fall unknown
Residents reportedly found Chen’s body and immediately contacted an ambulance and the police. A schoolbag believed to belong to the victim was also seen at the scene.
Chen was pronounced dead by medical personnel who rushed to the scene.
Chen’s family were later informed of the tragedy and her father rushed to the scene, where he broke down in tears and called out her name after confirming that she was indeed his daughter.
Police are now conducting investigations to uncover what caused Chen to fall from the flat.
