Both died at the scene.
Since time immemorial, illegal racing has not only been a public eyesore to Malaysians, but it has also led to many youths losing their lives while performing dangerous stunts on the road.

Yet again, two teenage boys had their lives tragically cut short after they lost control of their motorbikes and collided into each other while performing wheelies.

He said police investigations found that the teens, who were both aged 13, were performing wheelies along  Jalan Elmina Business Park before they crashed head-on into each other, which killed them on the spot.

He also added that there has been a troubling rise in fatalities linked to illegal racing and speeding within the Sungai Buloh area since the beginning of this year.

From January to August this year, it had shown a drastic increase with 11 fatalities linked to seven investigation papers opened involving motorcyclists.

“This is compared to the three fatalities involving three investigation papers opened throughout 2023. The increase is worrying,” he said as quoted by NST.

Parents can be charged for negligence

Meanwhile, Mohd Hafiz called upon parents to always be aware and keep tabs on their children’s activities, especially during nighttime, so that they do not find themselves getting involved in illegal racing.

He also warned of the legal consequences that negligent parents will face if they fail to keep a tight rein on their kids and allow them to have access to a motor vehicle.

“Underaged riders and their parents or guardians can be charged under Section 39 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for underaged driving and allowing those without a valid licence to operate a vehicle.

“Parents can also be charged under Section 31(1) (a) of the Child Act 2001 for neglecting or exposing a child to danger so as to cause him or her physical or emotional injury,” he said.
