12yo M’sian Boy Who Drove Car In KL Charged For Underaged Driving

His father was charged for child neglect.
A 12-year-old boy who went viral online for driving his siblings around a residential area in KL was charged in the Sepang Magistrate’s Court today for underaged driving.

The boy, who was unnamed, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read out to him before magistrate Bukhori Ruslan.

The proceedings were held behind closed doors as the boy is a minor, reported FMT.

According to the boy’s lawyer Nabilla Rosli, she told reporters outside the court that the boy was charged under Section 39(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum fine of RM2,000, up to six months in prison, or both, upon conviction.

Meanwhile, the boy’s father, who’s a Pakistani but holds a Malaysian permanent resident status, was charged with neglect and failure to supervise the child at the Sepang Sessions Court.

Like his son, he also pleaded not guilty to the charge, reported NST.

In mitigation, Nabilla asked the court to give a lighter sentence, saying that the boy’s father was a carpet seller who earns about RM3,000 monthly and has unstable income.

She also said that the prosecution’s request to set bail at RM15,000 with one surety was too high, adding that it would be “detrimental” to her client’s family.

Bail was eventually set bail at RM500 and RM2,000 for the boy and his father respectively and fixed Sept 4 for case mention.

Last Wednesday (July 30), the young boy was caught in a viral video taking the Perodua Viva for a joyride along with two of his younger siblings at Taman Putra Impiana, Puchong.

When confronted by a woman who filmed the entire incident, he indirectly admitted that he had broken the law by getting behind the wheel by acknowledging that the legal age to drive was 17.
