A Malaysian mother recently shared that her 10 year old eldest child refused to go to school after feeling embarrassed about the amount of pocket money he was given.
The mother said her son often returned home feeling upset because he was only given RM1 for school allowance.

According to her, the situation came to a head when the boy suddenly refused to attend school one morning.
She said it took nearly 30 minutes for her and her husband to calm him down and find out what was wrong.
The child eventually explained that he felt embarrassed in front of his classmates because he only brought RM1, while many of his friends brought RM3 to school.
With RM1, he said he could only afford to buy items such as sausages or nuggets from the school canteen.

The mother also shared that her husband previously gave their son RM3 as pocket money.
However, after the child experienced diarrhoea at school on one occasion, she started preparing packed food for him to bring instead.
Despite having a packed meal, the child still wanted to buy food from the canteen.
According to the Kosmo!,the mother said children often find it hard to resist when they see their friends spending money at the canteen.
She added that she eventually decided to stop preparing packed food in the mornings and return to giving her son RM3 in pocket money, as that was what made him feel more comfortable at school.

The post sparked discussion among other parents in the comments section, with many sharing similar experiences.
One parent said her child would bring packed food but leave it untouched because he preferred buying food at the canteen.
She also shared that her child once complained to his teacher that his mother did not give him money, making it impossible for him to buy food at school.
According to her, dealing with the changing behaviour of children as they grow up can be challenging for parents.
