NEW YORK – Saturday’s (Sept 11) U.S. Open Women’s finals saw a clash between two young tennis titans, with Emma Raducanu emerging as the victor.
The mouthwatering match featured 19-year-old Leylah Fernandez from Canada and 18-year-old Raducanu from the UK.
It was an extraordinary and unprecedented achievement for Raducanu, who overpowered Fernandez with a 6-4, 6-3 win.

Furthermore, the young tennis star did not drop a single set during the entire tournament, propelling her to become the champion.
Family background
Raducanu was born in Canada to immigrant parents, where her father hailed from Romania and her mother from Northeast China.
However, she largely grew up in the UK and eventually fell in love with tennis when she began playing at the age of 5.
In a post-game interview, Raducanu attributed her success to her family as one of the key contributors.

My mom’s side of the family, when I go over to China, they are so mentally resilient. It’s like nothing can bring them down.
I would say I take a big part of my inspiration from her. My mom has worked very hard
High acclaim from Chinese netizens
News of Raducanu’s sensational victory also reached China’s shores, where netizens heaped much praise on her although she doesn’t have online presence there.
One netizen wrote on Weibo saying, “She would be immensely popular if she attended the China Open or Wuhan Open.”

Another noted that Raducanu spoke fluent Chinese and must have learnt it from her mother as she spoke the language during an interview.
It is without doubt that her U.S. Open victory has stunned many. We will be watching her growth with great interest!
