“You look like a prostitute” Netizen slut-shamed by friend over sleeveless top

Year's 2021, but some are still stuck in the 1800s.

KUALA LUMPUR – The right to adequate clothing, or the right to clothing, is recognized as a universal human right where anyone has the liberty in choosing what attire they want to wear in public. Unfortunately, it seems that some still fail to understand and respect that right.

In her Facebook post, Molli shared how it all started with her sending a video of her wearing a white sleeveless top to her friend on WhatsApp and it became apparent that he was visibly disturbed by it.

When she asked her friend politely over his objection, she was told that it was rather strange for her to wear such clothes as she “usually dressed well” and “properly covered”.

“That looks like [what] a prostitute [would] wear.”

Perhaps realising that he had crossed the line, Molli’s friend attempted to salvage the situation by adding that he did not mean to judge or sound rude. But she wasn’t having any of his excuses.

“My mum also didn’t say anything about it. Who are you to call me that?” she replied.

Molli also expressed her disappointment and anger towards her friend who tried to “advice” her over her clothing with such derogatory words.

She later revealed that her friend claimed he wanted “the best for her” and thought that she might put herself in danger by wearing revealing clothes.

Molli also explained that her mum bought the top and she was comfortable wearing it.

At the end of the Facebook post, Molli admonished her friend by telling him to be silent if he “doesn’t have anything nice to say” and encouraged the public not to be shallow by judging someone based on how they dress.

“Remember, even friends have boundaries. Don’t let anyone disrespect you. Stand up for yourself!”
