An 84-year-old woman who was rescued from a burning overturned car is now in stable condition, after being rushed to hospital following the incident.
According to China Press, her daughter, who declined to be named, said the family remains deeply grateful to the three young men who risked their lives to save her mother.
‘She might not be here today’
Speaking to reporters at Hospital Sungai Buloh, the daughter shared that her mother is expected to be discharged soon after undergoing surgery on her arm.
“Everything happened so suddenly. After the accident, my mother was disoriented and didn’t know what had happened.
“It was only later that we found out three young men had saved her.
“At that time, the car was already smoking and could have exploded at any moment. I am truly thankful that they risked their lives to rescue her. If not for them, my mother might not be here today.”
The elderly woman was seen with her right arm bandaged and had visible facial injuries. She also appeared weak and was not in a condition to be interviewed.
Husband hopes to thank rescuers in person
Meanwhile, the victim’s husband said he was at a nearby clinic when the accident happened.
“My wife had driven me to a clinic near our home. Suddenly, I received a call from a security guard informing me that she had been involved in an accident. I rushed back immediately,” he said.
He added that he felt relieved after learning that his wife had been rescued by three young men of different races and was no longer in danger.
I haven’t had the chance to thank them. If I knew where they live, I would definitely visit them personally to express my gratitude.”
He also described his wife as an independent person who often goes out on her own. She has been driving for over 10 years without any prior accidents, and the car is regularly maintained.
It is believed that the vehicle may have skidded before the crash, although she was reportedly driving slowly at the time.
What happened
The incident took place at around 3.35pm on Mar 29 along Persiaran Bandar Utama near the BU2 park area.
The woman is believed to have lost control of her vehicle, causing it to overturn before catching fire. She was rescued just moments before the flames engulfed the car, thanks to the quick actions of three young men.
Three days after the incident, the charred wreckage was still left at the scene.
