Malaysia has long faced the issue of highly-educated locals having to settle for low salaries due to factors outside of their control and often results in them looking elsewhere for better prospects.
This was brought into the limelight again after a post showing a job listing in Singapore went viral, where it offered a whopping pay for a rather lowly job.
RM13k salary offered to work as toilet cleaner
In the post, it showed a screenshot from a job portal named Indeed, which concerned a vacancy for a Cleaning Specialist at a facilities management company in Singapore.

Based on the listing, a basic salary of SGD3,200 to SGD3,300 (about RM10,500–RM10,800) will be offered, along with the possibility of earning SGD3,500 to SGD4,000 (about RM11,500–RM13,000) after overtime.
Its job description includes toilet cleaning and general cleaning tasks, and while fresh graduates are more than welcome to apply, degree holders in any field are given priority.
Reactions
Unsurprisingly, netizens were floored by the high salary being offered for a job that most would consider to be dirty and one not worth applying for.
‘Country so competitive you need degree to clean toilet.’

They also bemoaned the sad reality that Malaysians are now willing to take up menial jobs in exchange for better pay outside of the country.
‘Really puts into perspective how strong our third world currency is.’

‘That’s the standard Malaysians have set. With degree, they’re willing to do this type of jobs. So it becomes a norm.’

However, some cast doubt on the legitimacy of the job listing, with one claiming it was just a facade to fulfil requirements set by Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

Bait or not, here’s the link to the job listing if you’re interested to apply. Don’t say we bojio!
