Cycling and driving can coexist. But only if everyone plays by the rules.
That concern resurfaced recently after a dashcam video showing a group of cyclists riding dangerously in Shah Alam began making waves on social media.
Uploaded by TikTok user @eurekacan, the video captures the cyclists occupying both the left and right lanes while overtaking a car, prompting widespread outrage from viewers.
“You boxed me in”
In the clip, the dashcam owner can be heard expressing her frustration. She explained that she had intended to shift into the right lane to allow the cyclists to pass safely on the left.

However, that proved impossible when the group took over both lanes, leaving her trapped in the middle with no room to maneuver.
I would’ve moved to the right lane to give way for you guys to ride safely, but I couldn’t because you guys were trapping me from both sides,” she said.
To drive home her point, she added a caption in the video: “Cyclists, please stay in one lane.”
The incident reportedly occurred around 9.30pm on July 29 along a road in Seksyen 3, Shah Alam, Selangor.
What the dashcam owner told us
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Tisha, the driver and owner of the dashcam footage shared what really happened behind the scenes.

“There was nothing that happened before or after the clip between me and the cyclists. I was just out strolling and chatting with my friend after dinner around our neighbourhood,” she said.
When asked whether the cyclists interacted with her, she clarified, “They didn’t say anything, but some gave hand signals to merge from the right lane to the left in front of me.”
As for how it felt being trapped between both lanes, Tisha admitted it was a first for her.
I was startled at first since it was my first time being boxed in like that. Usually, they ride on the left side and I’ll merge to the right to give way. But this time, they were on both sides, and I felt a bit frustrated that I couldn’t merge at all.
“Please control your speed and ride in a single file when there are cars or motorised vehicles around.”
Public backlash over cyclist behaviour
As the video gained traction online, it quickly sparked a flood of criticism from netizens, many of whom voiced their frustration over the group’s lack of road discipline.
Some went further, calling on authorities to enforce stricter rules on road-sharing and take decisive action against groups that ride irresponsibly in public spaces.
At the same time, others clarified that the issue isn’t with cycling itself but with how some cyclists behave on the road.
