For students whose campuses are surrounded by greenery, monkey encounters are just part of daily life. Usually, these furry creatures mind their own business, scavenging for snacks and plotting their next heist on unsuspecting students. But sometimes, they take things a little too far, like physically blocking you from leaving your dorm. That’s exactly what happened to Aqilah, a Malaysian university student, whose encounter with a bold monkey quickly went viral on TikTok. But instead of dealing with the usual morning struggles; oversleeping, missing the bus, or pretending to be sick, she found herself face-to-face with an entirely different challenge. In her now-viral TikTok video, she humorously captioned, “Sorry Dr, I didn’t come to class today, not in the mood.” At first, the clip showed nothing out of the ordinary; just a closed dorm room door. But the second she opened it, she was met with an unexpected guest. Right outside was a huge monkey, looking like it had just declared itself the new dorm warden. But before she could even process the situation, the monkey turned its head, locked eyes with her, and lunged straight at her. Her instincts kicked in, and she did what anyone would; slam the door shut and scream for her roommate so they could be shocked together. "I panicked when I realised it was a monkey!" Since I love recording random things, I quickly grabbed my phone and started filming. But honestly, I panicked when I realised it was a monkey!” Her first instinct? Make sure her roommates were just as shocked as she was. “I immediately screamed for my roommates so they could be scared with me.” she joked. As for the monkey? It wasn’t in a hurry to leave. Nope, it just moved on to other rooms. Some students screamed and ran into their dorms too,” she shared. She waited a few minutes before stepping out again, but she admitted it felt like an eternity. “It wasn’t actually that long, but it felt really long because I was so worried the monkey might do something,” she said. And apparently, monkeys strolling around campus is a pretty normal thing. “There are quite a lot of monkeys here,” she admitted. “They probably have morning classes too because they always come out in the morning. But at night? Not so much.” While she couldn’t reveal which university she’s studying at, she did confirm that the incident happened in her dorm on level 4 of the building.
