‘Looks Like A Protest’ — M’sian Parents Hold Colourful Placards While Picking Their Kids Up From PJ School

Malaysian parenting core.
The first day of school is often full of chaos as parents have to soothe their crying kids who are nervous going to school for the first time and jostling with other parents when picking them up.

A clip showing a group of parents gathering in front of a primary school in Petaling Jaya (PJ) has caught the attention of netizens, who were amused to see them holding large placards while picking their kids up.

As the camera panned across the entrance, placards of various colours were seen being raised in to the air, with some parents even tiptoeing to ensure their kids could see the placard.

On each placard, the child’s name and the type of car used to fetch them home were written on it.

In the caption, the OP jokingly commented that the parents weren’t picking their kids up from the airport but from school, as placards are usually displayed at airports to point passengers to their families waiting to welcome them.

Speaking briefly to WeirdKaya, the OP shared that the video was taken in front of SK Taman Medan Petaling Jaya on Monday (Feb 17).

Despite the rather chaotic scene, the OP said there were teachers on standby to ensure the kids were picked up by the right parent.

She also added that she personally believes using placards was an effective method as only authorised parents were given the placards beforehand.

‘They look like they’re protesting’

The clip, which has since garnered over 560,000 views at the time of writing, saw netizens leaving amused comments over it.

One joked that the parents looked as though they were holding a protest outside the school to voice their disatisfaction.
