In a statement by the Penang Fire and Rescue Department, its operations center received a report at 7.32pm about someone falling from the bridge.
A team of 10 personnel, including an operations commander from the Bayan Baru fire station, was dispatched to the scene to carry out rescue efforts.

When they arrived, they found a Proton Waja bearing a Kuala Lumpur registration plate, along with the man’s personal identification documents.
A pair of slippers and a handphone was also seen being placed on top of the bridge railing.

Firefighters, with the help of Civil Defence Force (APM), the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, marine police, and police, immediately launched rescue efforts to locate the man.
However, it was called off at 10pm due to rough sea conditions and limited visiblity.
Nevertheless, rescuers aren’t giving up, with APM and marine police continuing to carry out patrols for the time being.
