# M’sian Man Claims Woman Told Him To Take Another Lift As He ‘Could Be A Rapist’

## TL: DR

- **Threads user @nasrul_hd** claims a woman at a shopping mall told him he "could be a rapist" after he entered the same lift to the parking area.
- **He alleges the woman** threatened to sue him after he retorted that she is "not that attractive" during the dispute inside the lift.
- **Netizens debate the incident**, weighing whether the lift is a shared public space or if women's safety fears in enclosed areas justify her caution.

**Sharing a lift with strangers is an everyday occurrence at shopping malls. But for one man, a ride to the car park allegedly turned into an uncomfortable exchange with a woman he had never met.**

Taking to Threads, [@nasrul_hd](https://www.threads.com/share/EJRJUMaZA) recounted how the woman allegedly questioned him for entering the same lift before telling him he “could be a rapist”.

His account sparked a debate among netizens, with some criticising the woman’s alleged remark while others urged more understanding towards women’s safety concerns.

## Rushed to catch the lift

According to his post, he was at a shopping mall and wanted to take the lift to the parking area.

When he arrived, the doors were open and people were stepping out. A woman was also about to enter.

He said he gestured for her to wait briefly, but she appeared to be rushing inside. He then quickened his pace and managed to hold the doors before they closed.

However, he claimed the woman seemed unhappy after he entered.

> You’re acting like there aren’t any other lifts,” she allegedly told him.

Confused by her reaction, he asked what the problem was.

## ‘You are a stranger’

According to the man, the woman responded:

> You are a stranger… you could be a rapist for all I know!”

He said he replied with a remark about her appearance.

> Don’t worry, you’re not that attractive.”

He claimed this angered her further and that she threatened to sue him.

In his post, he questioned why she could make such a suggestion about him but became upset when he responded.

**He also clarified in replies to commenters that the woman had entered the lift first, before he followed.**

## ‘It’s a public space’

Several commenters sided with the man, arguing that the woman’s alleged remark was inappropriate.

One pointed out that a shared lift was for everyone to use.

“*It’s a public space. The lift isn’t yours alone*.”

Another shared an encounter with a woman while hiking alone on a remote trail.

According to the commenter, the woman stepped aside and said she was waiting for friends who were nearby. After continuing along the trail without seeing anyone else, he suspected she had said it as a precaution.

He said he understood her caution and did not take offence, but felt the alleged remark in the lift went too far.

## Others urged understanding of women’s fears

However, other commenters felt that women’s concerns about sharing enclosed spaces with unfamiliar men should also be considered.

One urged the man to understand where the woman might have been coming from, pointing to fears of violence against women.

Another said someone’s past experiences could affect how safe they feel around strangers, while suggesting that a person who felt uncomfortable could choose to wait for another lift.

A separate commenter disagreed with the woman’s alleged choice of words but also hoped men would not dismiss women’s fears.

“*Maybe all of us can be a bit kinder with how we choose our words.*”

The account is based on the man’s Threads post. The screenshots provided do not include the woman’s version of events.
