A man was recently intercepted by Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers in Melaka for displaying a number plate which actually belonged to a motorcycle on his luxury car.
According to Harian Metro, the discovery was made during inspection checks held on Jalan Solok Bukit Katil last Saturday (Feb 28).
BMW driver reportedly a ‘Datuk’
Melaka JPJ director Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop told the Malay daily said the BMW was purchased not too long ago by the man, who is reportedly a ‘Datuk’.
However, he failed to complete the interchange process as the BMW was using a single-digit number legally registered for a Modenas Kriss motorcycle.
Siti Zarina added that the BMW driver continued using the car as he thought JPJ officers would not inspect it.
The luxury car was later seized under the Road Transport Act 1987 for further investigation.
Officers also seized another BMW for having an expired road tax and insurance.
Siti Zarina reiterated that no one is immune from the law and added JPJ will continue to carry out inspections to ensure all vehicles comply with regulations for the safety of road users.
