Highest rank thus far! Lee Zii Jia ranks 7th in latest BWF World Ranking

KUALA LUMPUR – Following a series of badminton tournaments over the past few months, the Badminton World Federation announced the latest BWF World Ranking.

Malaysia’s No.1 men’s singles player Lee Zii Jia climbed one position, advancing from 8th place to 7th, surpassing Indonesian player Jonathan Christie.

Zii Jia is the only player in the top ten who has risen in the rankings, while others maintained their positions.

Malaysia’s men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, held on to their 8th place.

In the recent tournament in Germany (Hylo Open), Zii Jia was forced to retire in the third match of the finals due to a back injury.

Fortunately, his credits from previous championships were accounted for, giving him a boost in the latest rankings.

Zii Jia experiencing mental fatigue

The country’s head men’s singles coach, Hendrawan admitted that the protégé is experiencing mental fatigue after competing in five straight tournaments in Europe.

“This is a new experience for Zii Jia,” he told BeritaHarian.

Hendrawan also expressed concerns about the athlete’s participation in the upcoming Indonesia Masters, citing his back injury.

“If Zii Jia has not fully recovered, he will probably withdraw from the tournament.”
